It makes over 1,100 horsepower to the wheels, but it smokes quite a bit.

In general, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is a high-performance car that doesn’t require any additional assistance to achieve high speeds. It comes equipped with an 840 horsepower engine and a suspension system optimized for swift launches on the drag strip. As a result, it can complete quarter-mile runs in under 10 seconds without any modifications. However, once you experience such high speeds, you always want to go faster.

The Challenger SRT Demon featured in the MotorTube video is an excellent example of this. It’s a rare car, with only 3,300 units produced during its short production run. While the bright green finish is eye-catching, the real attention-grabber is that the owner has replaced the blower of the supercharged Hellcat V8 engine with two turbochargers, making it even more impressive.

The video shows the dyno pulls, and the TLDR summary for the first half of the clip is that the owner wants to prepare the car for racing, but only has a week to do it. Despite the cost of adding the turbos, the owner considers it a budget project. While it’s challenging to see how replacing an already powerful supercharger with turbos is a cost-saving measure, the Demon’s power and sound are impressive. So, if you’re a fan of power and sound, this is the car for you.

The initial dyno pull with the turbochargers is primarily intended to test how well the various components and computer settings work together. Although no adjustments were made to the boost, and the engine was not revved up too high, the modified Hellcat V8 produced an impressive 625.8 horsepower at the wheels. Assuming a 15 percent loss of power through the drivetrain, this translates to approximately 720 horsepower at the crankshaft, which is quite impressive for an engine that has not yet been tuned.

As the tuning process begins, subsequent dyno pulls show a significant increase in power. In the second run, the Demon generates 893 horsepower at 10.5 pounds of boost, which then increases to 941 horsepower for the third pull. At this point, some smoke can be seen, but this does not deter further tuning. The result of the next pull is an impressive 1,132.4 horsepower at the wheels, which is equivalent to approximately 1,340 horsepower at the engine with a 15 percent drivetrain loss. However, during the final run, a substantial amount of smoke emerges from the exhaust. The video concludes with the car heading out for an inspection, and its future remains uncertain.

This particular Demon owner isn’t alone in the quest for a more powerful Challenger. Dodge recently dropped its first of four teasers for the final Last Call Challenger, leading up to its debut in March. While details are still unknown, the teaser suggests we could see the Demon return in Redeye trim. Previous rumors said it could have over 900 horsepower, tuned to run on E85 fuel.
